The tour is strictly a wine-tasting experience and does not host celebration events such as birthdays or bachelor/bachelorette parties as the estates visited are primarily wine-tasting venues and not party venues. In order to properly exercise their duties, the Franschhoek Wine Tram staff members place a legitimate expectation on all guests not to behave in an unacceptably loud, disruptive, offensive, or intoxicated manner. Should any such behaviour be exhibited the Franschhoek Wine Tram reserves its right to suspend or withdraw its services. All vehicles are fitted with CCTV and monitored throughout the service.
CANCELLATION POLICY (All services including chauffeur/transfer services):
24 hours + = 100% REFUND
Less than 24 hours before scheduled TIME SLOT = No Refund
Please send a cancellation email to info@winetram.co.za including your booking ID on the subject to request a refund.
Passengers may dine at one of several restaurants on the tour. To avoid disappointment, it is highly recommended that passengers make reservations for lunch/picnic at least 24-48 hours in advance. Food or open alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the tour though food and drinks are available for purchase at the wine estates. Wine tastings can be purchased at each wine estate directly. Kindly take into consideration that some wine estates are cashless and require card payments only.
Tickets are to be collected on the day of your tour. Please be at the Ticket Office +/-20 minutes prior to your departure time.
Please take note that pets are not permitted on the tour.
Transportation from the ticket office to each of the wine estates on your route.
You will also receive a daily offerings card which will include any specials/discounts for the day.
Wine tasting, lunch, and other activities at each stop.
Chauffeur/Transfer – Please note transfers are added at an additional cost to your booking.
Please note all our tours are not wheelchair friendly as the vehicles are all safari-type vehicles. All clients traveling with us need to be mobile due to stairs in all vehicles as well as accessibility at the wine estates. We booked the Franschhoek Wine Tram in January 2025 and loved it so much we went again January 2026. The whole experience is very relaxing and well organised. The tram ride itself is the beginning part of your wine journey, the tram is beautiful and makes you feel as if you are back in time. You are handed a small wine goblet and offered a taste of a local wine as the tram starts its journey to the first vineyard. There are no windows so you feel the breeze as you travel along which provides plenty opportunity to take in the stunning scenery, perfect for photo taking and video footage. You can stay at each vineyard as long as you like, there is a minimum stay of an hour I think. This is not an issue as it gives you plenty time to sample the wines or enjoy some lunch. The staff at the ticket office and on the tram explain the timings of the pick ups at each vineyard for you to rejoin the tram to the next vineyard. Our favourite vineyard by far is Rickety Bridge. This is the first vineyard you arrive at on the Blue Line. The staff are well trained and deliver their knowledge of the wines and pairings very well. On both occasions to Rickety Bridge we sampled the pairing menus, I strongly recommend the cheese pairing. Interesting point - none of us particularly like a rose wine. However, much to our surprise, our favourite wine this trip was the rose! paired with the goats cheese, it was pure heaven! The views from the outdoor terrace whilst enjoying the wine pairing is breathtaking. A few members of the group placed a wine order for delivery to the U.K. (some of the rose wine too!) The ordering process was simple and we are looking forward to receiving the wonderful wines very soon. We will definitely be back again in 2027! If you are considering a wine route visit whilst in Cape Town, we highly recommend booking the Franschhoek Wine Tram. Trust me, all your life worries and stresses disappear the moment you set foot on that tram. 10/10. Book it! You won't be disappointed. - Susanna
