Franschhoek Valley:
Breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world-class cuisine, and fine wines: These are the hallmarks of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley in the heart of the Cape Winelands. When the Huguenots first settled in this spectacular valley over 300 years ago, they brought with them their traditions and knowledge in winemaking and viticulture from their native France and transformed the wilderness around them into one of the most beautiful valleys in the world. This proud heritage can be seen and felt today in the Village and on the surrounding farms.

The fertile Franschhoek Valley is home to some of South Africa’s noble cultivars and classic styles. These range from superb whites such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, and Chenin Blanc, to the full-bodied reds of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Petit Verdot, and Merlot.

The tour is strictly a wine-tasting experience and does not host celebration events such as birthdays or bachelor/bachelorette parties as the estates visited are primarily wine-tasting venues and not party venues. In order to properly exercise their duties, the Franschhoek Wine Tram staff members place a legitimate expectation on all guests not to behave in an unacceptably loud, disruptive, offensive, or intoxicated manner. Should any such behaviour be exhibited the Franschhoek Wine Tram reserves its right to suspend or withdraw its services. All vehicles are fitted with CCTV and monitored throughout the service.

Customer Reviews

This Franshhoeck Curated Wine Tram Tour was perfect! Our guide was wonderful. The winery visits were amazing. Food wine pairings were perfect. We loved the "extras" we experienced beyond what the hop on hop off visits would have provided. I highly recommend this tour. Leave the planning to the pros ? - Barbara

Woah, what a fun day! From the get-go when we arrived and got checked in on our reservation for the curated wine experience we felt that we were in good hands. Our friendly and VERY enthusiastic guide, Simon, introduced himself to us and quickly let us know what a terrific ride and itinerary (hence forth named "The Madness") we had before us. We were hyped! The day starts with the trip on the famous Franschhoek Wine Tram and since you're part of the curated experience you also get handed a glass of bubbles. The fun continuous and you are walked around great vineyards and get to know all you ever wanted to know about making wine, drinking wine, blending wine, enjoying wine, and just... Wine! You really feel that you are being taken care of since you get to see a lot of behind the scenes, get brought to special tasting rooms and really see the ins-and-outs of the vineyards. For the tastings you are presented to a wide variety of both whites and reds, more experimental and less experimental wines, but overall quite great wine! You are also presented with spices to help you feel the different tastes in wine and make some taste notes more or less obvious. The day flows very good and you are never far from the next tasting and learning, but the whole thing did not feel rushed at all. Our guide, Simon, was great fun the entire day and very attentive to all our different personalities, we are shy Scandinavians but both Simon and the group was very friendly and we all got along great. We've been to previous tastings/guided experiences in France and Italy, but this one was the best one in terms of beautiful scenery, good mix of learning/tasting and fun. Greatly recommended, we had a great time, just make sure to bring some extra bags, because you will want to bring some very good wine and even greater prices with you. - Dennis

We had a great time. Informative and fun. They guide was clear and helpful, as was the chap at Rickety Bridge, who was a very hospitable host. We enjoyed lunch. Our only comment would be it would have been good to have had some snacks at La Brie. The wine was very heavy there and we had all had quite a few glasses by then! - Keith

Our experience widely went beyond our expectations! Especially our guide ANGA with her warm, competent and personal attitude made the tour to a great and educative trip. We also want to highlight the competence and presentation of GLEN from "Rickety Bridge" throughout the cellar tour followed by the tasting and pairing! We further visited "La Bri" (interesting contrast to the bigger wineries) and "Grande Provence" where we enjoyed two further great tastings and pairings (sweet and oysters). Overall rating therefore is 10/10 and really value for money! Thanks and greetings from Vienna, Austria, Michael and Susanne - Michael

The curated wine experience was an absolutely brilliant day, a highlight, a genuinely stand out occasion that will live long in the memory. From the moment of entering the Franschhoek tram depot we were treated as VIP guests. Our guide for the day was Simon who was charismatic, charming and extremely knowledgeable. We went to three separate tastings and had a wonderful meal that was also accompanied by delicious wines. The learning experience was very informative and done in such a considered and informal way making it thoroughly enjoyable. By the finish of the day we were a little the worse for wear but as happy as can be. I don't think you will get a better wine experience anywhere in the world. I recommend it without a moment's hesitation. - Simon
